Results of the May 6 Election

May 6, 2023, was the local election for:

City of Richardson City Council Mayor (Place 7) and Places 1-6
City of Richardson Bond
Richardson ISD Board of Trustees District 3 and Place 6

Each entity canvassed their votes at a public meeting. The canvass is the official tally of votes for the election.

For all election results listed below, the results are listed in ballot order. The winner is listed in red.

City of Richardson City Council

The May 6th election results for the City of Richardson City Council were canvassed at the Council meeting on Monday, May 15, 2023 at the Eisemann Center's Bank of America Theatre.

All registered voters living in Richardson (Dallas County and Collin County) could vote for Mayor (Place 7), City Council Places 1-6, and the bond.

NOTE: Some news outlets erroneously reported that Janet DePuy won the Richardson Mayor's race. They only looked at the Collin County results. In order to determine the winners. The City of Richardson election results from Dallas County and Collin County must be added together to determine the winner.

Mayor (Place 7): 4,910 votes - Bob Dubey
Mayor (Place 7): 4,610 votes - Janet DePuy

City Council Place 1: 4,015 votes - G. Scott Waddell
City Council Place 1: 4,720 votes - Curtis Dorian

City Council Place 2: 7,382 votes - JenniferJustice

City Council Place 3: 5,176 votes - Dan Barrios
City Council Place 3: 3,865 votes - Stephen Springs

City Council Place 4: 7,265 votes - Joe Corcoran

City Council Place 5: 2,967 votes - Todd Harris Hunter
City Council Place 5: 5,816 votes - Ken Hutchenrider

City Council Place 6: 7,108 votes - Arefin Shamsul

City Hall Bond Proposition: 6,727 votes in favor
City Hall Bond Proposition: 2,023 votes against

The City of Richardson (Dallas and Collin Counties) has a population of 116,382.

Of those, 72,092, or 61.9%, are registered voters.
Of the registered voters in Richardson, about 13.8% voted in the May 6th election.

Richardson ISD Board of Trustees

The May 6th election results for Richardson ISD were canvassed at the Board of Trustees Board Called Meeting on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

Only registered voters living in RISD District 3 could vote in the District 3 election. All registered voters living in the Richardson ISD could vote in the Place 6 election.

RISD District 3: 519 votes - Bonnie Abadie
RISD District 3: 951 votes - Debbie Renteria

RISD Place 6: 6,707 votes - Blake Sawyer
RISD Place 6: 8,789 votes - Eric Eager

Facebook and our website

Facebook outreach continues to grow (mostly during local election seasons). In 90 days this spring, our posts reached almost 4800 separate Facebook accounts. Our @LWVRichardsonTX Facebook page now has 221 followers. Our two posts with the highest number of views this year received 2243 and 1655 views respectively.

For the 30 day period up to the May 6 election, our website had:

1336 views of the home page;
2288 views of the May 6 election page;
377 views of the page with the Richardson City Council forum; and
297 views of the page with the Richardson ISD forum.

Approximately 18,000 people cast votes from our coverage area (the City of Richardson and the Richardson ISD). The 2288 views of our election page represent 12.7% of the people who voted from our area.

From June 1, 2022 to today, our Home page had 6240 hits.

Colin County League of Women Voters

July 12

We are invited to join the Collin County League of Women Voters Zoom meeting to discuss American Carnage: Shattering the Myths that Fuel Gun Violence (School Safety, Violence in Society) by Fred Guttenberg, who lost his daughter in the Parkland School Shooting, and Thomas Gabor, an International Gun Policy Consultant. They have given a copy of the book to every member of the U.S. Congress. This is an opportunity to share thoughts on the book as well as various discussion questions. The book is available in paperback.
