About a week before the start of early voting (April 22-29), voters should be able to access www.vote411.org to find out which races are on their ballot. The local Leagues produced questions to ask the candidates who are contested. Each candidate was given the opportunity to answer those questions. LWVR's printed voters guide for the contested candidates in the Richardson Mayor and City Council Place 6 races and the Richardson ISD Board of Trustees Single-Member Districts 2 and 5 will be available at that time.
________________
LWVR has scheduled the following candidate forums:
-
City of Richardson Mayoral and City Council Forum: Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the Eisemann Center's Bank of America Theatre.
-
Richardson ISD Single-Member District 5 Forum: Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the Richardson ISD Administration Building Auditorium.
-
Richardson ISD Single-Member District 2 Forum: Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. in the Richardson ISD Administration Building Auditorium.
According to LWVUS policy, at least two candidates for any contested race must agree to participate in order for the forum to be scheduled. If a candidate who has previously agreed to participate does not appear, the forum will proceed as scheduled, even if only one candidate participates.

Voter Registration Focusing on New Young Voters
| The encounters with young voters have shown their enthusiasm in having the opportunity to have a voice in their local government. Teens who were not quite ready to register due to age also showed interest in learning about voting.
As the May election grows near, we are scheduling more voter registration events in the community. If you are interested in helping, please reach out by email at VoterReg@lwvrichardson.org. This is a great way for LWV Richardson to be visible in the community and to encourage knowledgeable voting. We have daytime and evening opportunities coming up over the next several months, which include both weekday and weekend events.
We welcome experienced and new members to help.

February was an exciting month for voter registration.
- We spoke to many folks about the upcoming May opportunities to vote for City officials and School Board members.
- We registered voters at the Lunar Festival in Richardson’s Chinatown and at colleges and high schools in the area this past month.
- As part of a new effort to serve students at vocational and/or trade schools, we paid visits to staff at nine area campuses and established voter registration opportunities at two of those schools. The LWVUS youth voter grant has helped us expand focus on registering young voters and educating them about the voting process.

Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
and
Medicaid for Children
|
CHIP and Children’s Medicaid have been well received by Texas families and these programs help to assure that our children have adequate preventative care in addition to coverage for more complex medical care. It is much more cost effective to provide immunizations, check-ups, and early intervention in childhood illnesses than to wait for a problem to develop into an emergency.
The LWV-Richardson is a long-time supporter of these programs. Members can help with an application help session at
St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church
1220 W. Belt Line Road
Richardson 75080
from 9 to noon on March 29, 2025.
Spanish-speaking experts will be available to assist. During our January help session, two families received assistance. During our February 25 help session, five families received assistance. We are invited to participate in an informational meeting at Dover Elementary School on March 27 from 5 to 7 pm.
Families who do not have coverage through their employment such as seasonal workers, employees who work part-time, grandparents who are raising their grandchildren on a fixed income, those who are currently unemployed, and teenagers who are “on their own” are some of our neighbors who might have eligible children. Please invite anyone you think may be interested to be with us on March 29.
