The League of Women Voters of Texas
Calls YOU
To Take Action

The Texas 89th Legislature is currently in session. Many bills that will affect your everyday life are being considered. The last scheduled day for the Legislature to be in session is Monday, June 2, 2025.

The League of Women Voters of Texas encourages you to contact your elected officials about urgent issues being considered in the Texas legislature that are important to you. Here is a link to the legislative items currently offered on the state LW Take Action webpage.
  •  At the bottom of the page, put in your street address and zip code.
  •  When you click "GO," a form will appear to type your comments into an email.
  •  The email is set up to be sent to President Donald Trump, your US Senators and Representative, Texas Governor, Texas Secretary of State, your Texas Senator and Representative, and/or City Council. Un-click any of the elected representatives to whom you do not want to send the email.
Although you cannot speak for the League of Women Voters of Richardson, you can express your preferences as an individual and, potentially, influence the outcome of these bills.

Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
and
Medicaid for Children

St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church hosted an application help session on February 22, 2025. The Community Council of Greater Dallas (CCGD) sent 2 of their specialists to help us. Five families completed the application forms. St. Barnabas also hosted a session on March 29, 2025, during which one family signed up for insurance.

With the help from the CCGD and publicity from the Council of PTAs, WIC (Women, Infants and Children), the Richardson Independent School District nurses, the Network of Community Ministries, and others, St. Barnabas will host another session:
April 12, 2025
from 9 a.m. to noon
St Barnabas Presbyterian Church
1220 West Belt Line Road
Richardson, TX 75080

In addition, CCGD specialists, Patricia Marquez and Judy Tran, and LWVRichardson member Martha Dorris participated in the Dover Elementary School March 27 All STAAR Academic night. It was well organized, busy, and a lot of fun. It was very well attended, and we distributed information to at least 50 families. Six were invited to follow up with application help on March 29 at St. Barnabas.

Thanks to all of you for your support and dedication to helping our families obtain insurance for their children. We encourage anyone who is interested to volunteer for a help session and/or mention the insurance to those who might find it of benefit. Texas continues to lead the USA in the number of uninsured children. Thank you for your continued support for these programs.
