The League of Women Voters of Richardson (LWVR) is always looking for dedicated, dependable volunteers. The volunteer jobs in LWR range from ‘one and done’ to jobs that require quite a few hours over several weeks.
Would you like to help? Email membership@lwvrichardson.org to volunteer or to ask a question. We’d love to hear from you.
- Check below for the volunteer opportunities that LWVR has to offer. The opportunities have been grouped by subject matter.
- Click here for a complete description of LWVR’s jobs. Then let us know how you want to help.
- If you see any erroneous, misleading, or confusing information in any of LWVR’s published material, please report the problem to league@lwvrichardson.org.
- If, during an election, you go to pick up a nonpartisan LWVR printed Voters Guide and they have run out, please report this to league@lwvrichardson.org.
- Come to our Annual Meeting to find out more about what we’re all about. Nonmembers are invited to our Annual Meeting…you just can’t vote. LWVR’s Annual Meeting is scheduled during the first 2 weeks of May.
Members of the League of Women Voters of Richardson can choose from a variety of ways to volunteer. See below.
VOTER SERVICE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Nonpartisan Voter Registration
- Become a Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR). This requires certification by the County Elections Department. Find information, see their websites:
- It’s most helpful if you want to help register voters (at local events like CityLine’s Boho Market, Galen School of Nursing, etc.), that you are a VDR in Collin County and/or Dallas County. However, there’s also a place for non-VDRs at these voter registration events. Days and time vary. This is usually a 2-3 hour commitment.
- To register voters at United States Citizenship and Immigration Services naturalization ceremonies in Irving, it’s helpful to be registered in 4 counties. Days and times vary. You can sign up for a 2-hour shift or an all-day shift (7am – 3pm)
Nonpartisan Voters Guide
LWVRichardson’s nonpartisan Voters Guide encompasses both the online Voters Guide (
www.VOTE411.org) and the printed Voters Guide.
- For elections involving candidates, submit questions to ask the candidates who are running for office. All candidates for the same race will be asked the same questions. Each question must pertain to the position sought. The questions and the candidates’ answers will appear in LWVR’s online and printed Voters Guides.
- Besides just submitting your questions, help the LWVRichardson Committee create questions and wordsmith all questions submitted.
- For elections involving issues (like bonds or charter amendments), help develop pro and con statements for issues on the ballot. The pro/con statements will appear in LWVR’s online and printed Voters Guides.
- Proofread the Voters Guide that LWVR created. The Voters Guide will be distributed both online and in print. The Voters Guide must be proofed for content accuracy, grammar, typos, etc. No mistake is too small to be corrected!
- Help distribute the printed Voters Guide that LWVR created. The Voters Guides are distributed in the City of Richardson at the Library, City Hall, Huffhines Recreation Centre, Heights Recreation Center, and the Senior “Center. In addition, for Voters Guides for the Richardson ISD, Voters Guides are also distributed to Forest Green Branch Library, Audelia Road Branch Library, and Fretz Park Branch Library, all in the City of Dallas.
Nonpartisan Candidate Forums
- Submit questions to ask the candidates during the forum. Each question will be asked of all candidates for the same position. All candidates for the same race will be asked the same questions. Each question must pertain to the position sought.
- Besides just submitting your questions, help the LWVRichardson Committee create questions and wordsmith all questions submitted.
- Volunteer to work the forum. We need greeters, tellers, and question screeners.
